During the holiday season, the North Platte Police Department will again provide Christmas gifts to local children in need through the “Santa Cop” program.

Applications to be in the program have been distributed throughout various agencies and churches in the community.

This year, police are not soliciting applications directly through the main office. This is something they have done in the past, but "challenges over the past few years have made it to difficult to manage," police spokesman Rodney Brown said.

The Santa Cop program receives no taxpayer support and is funded only through monetary donations from community members.

Brown said this year there is a large shortfall of donations and they are asking for your support.

Every year, the program helps area kids experience a wonderful Christmas.

During these tough times we are asking for your help to ensure that every child in our community has a Merry Christmas. You can send a tax-deductible donation to: Santa Cop P.O. Box 1458 North Platte, NE 69103.
