"We went looking or something that would connect us back to our roots," Nebraskaland Days Executive Director David Fudge said. "And what better connection than to the original rodeo -- Buffalo Bill's Old Glory Blowout in North Platte on July 4, 1882.

The Blowout is recognized as the world's first rodeo, and became the launching point for Cody's Wild West Show. The rodeo evolved into the Buffalo Bill Rodeo.

"We thought it would be cool to bring the original Wild West show back to North Platte," Fudge said. "Don Endsley's Great American Wild West Show is widely recognized as the premier reenactment of Cody's masterpiece. It will appear in North Platte on June 24-25 at the Wild West Arena, nestled on property Cody himself once owned."

The show features trick riding, shooting, Native American hoop dancers, and much more, Fudge said.

Don produced a Western variety show for the Houston Livestock Show in the mid-80s thru the early 90s. He is a member of the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame.

In 1996, he and his wife Sharon decided it was time to create a modern

version of the Wild West Show. The searched for award winning performers, daredevil trick riders, trick ropers, roman riders, Native American 'Hoop Dancers', a rip roarin' stagecoach, Texas Longhorns, singin' cowboys and cowgirls, and Western acts of all kinds for The Great American Wild West Show, according to their website.

The show has performed at such places as the Stardust Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, opening ceremonies for the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, western themed activities for the NBA New Orleans Hornets and Denver Nuggets, for Mark Twain Days in Hartford, Conn. and for Teddy Roosevelt Days in Montauk, Long Island, NY.

"We're thrilled to share the production in the place where it all started," Fudge said.

The Great American Wild West Show will be presented in North Platte by Great Plains Regional Medical Center with the assistance of the Nebraska Department of Travel and Tourism.

Tickets will go on sale before Christmas.
