Dry air will funnel into the Plains Thursday on howling winds, with the strongest gusts up to 60 mph in southeastern Wyoming and as high as 30 mph in North Platte.

The Halloween forecast is courtesy of accuweather.com, which publishes a prediction each year so trick or treaters can prepare.

Winds in North Platte will start from northwest at 6-11 mph but increase to 16-21 mph in the afternoon. Gusts could reach 30 mph. The overnight temperature will be around 30 degrees, the National Weather Service in North Platte said.

Accuweather said the Wyoming winds could be strong enough to threaten travelers on Interstate 80 from Cheyenne to Rawlins.

The weather service says there is a 20% chance of rain on Wednesday, under cloudy skies. The sun will shine Thursday and the temperature reach the mid-50s, the weather service said.

Late-October storms often bring snow to the northern parts of the country. However, the lack of cold air with this storm will prevent any mentionable snow east of the Rockies, accuweather said.

The winds are part of a major weather pattern that will also bring rain Thursday to the Midwest and eastern states, accuweather said.
