The reason the wins over the Islanders and Bearcats were so big is that before the triangular, NPHS was ninth in the Class A wild card point standings. It has been a goal for the Lady Bulldogs to host districts and it would need to get in the top seven to do so.

"It's awesome we won both matches," said North Platte coach Laura Miller. "Beating Grand Island is great power point-wise."

In their first match, the Lady Dawgs swept GI in two close sets 26-24, 25-23. At 19-10 and No. 8 in the power point standings going in, the Islanders were definitely the toughest of the two foes NPHS faced and the Bulldogs (16-10) got their biggest win of the season.

"It was a battle," Miller said. "I was glad to see us finish and come out ahead."

In the second match, Kearney (5-26) was no match for the surging Lady Bulldogs. North Platte swept the Bearcats 25-10, 25-12.

"We came out and dominated the whole thing," Miller said. "We wanted to solidify what we did against Grand Island."

In the first set against Kearney, NPHS scored the first six points with Allison Sawyer serving and the Bulldogs never looked back.

Then in the second, the Lady Dawgs took control with an 8-3 lead after Allison Kuenle scored three straight points on two kills and a block. The lead just escalated from there and North Platte came away with another win.

"Everyone did well today," Miller said. "We passed well and we took care of the ball."
