On Oct. 12, 70 volunteers congregated in Original Town to clean up litter and beautify the area.

The volunteers broke into groups to clean on the north side, from Willow to Chestnut and between Seventh and Rodeo Road. The Leadership Lincoln County group organized the day as a community project.

A total of 2.06 tons of litter and refuse was collected.

“We were amazed at the success of the event,” said Michael Phillips, the event organizer. “We wanted to use this day to raise funds to provide something that would have a positive and lasting impact on our community.”

Recycling funds will be given to Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful to place light pole banners in Original Town. The first of the banners should be installed within a few weeks, said Mona Anderson of Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful, who helped organize the projects.

The group used the cleanup to raise awareness as well as funds to support beautification efforts throughout North Platte.

As funds are raised, the banners will be spread throughout the community, Anderson said.
