Nearly 30 bands will perform from Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. through Sunday night, during the three-day festival.

Finer points

This is the first ever performance by Black N Blue in the state of Nebraska.

This is Roxy Blue’s reunion performance. They haven’t performed together in almost 20 years.

Christian acts on Sunday are Michael Sweet and Oz Fox of Stryper, White Cross, X-Sinner, Inner Siege, and Jonathan Pagano of Novella.

There will be numerous raffle items, including autographed guitars, posters and CDs.

Parker and Murr are looking into Skull Fest 2014 and hope to have acts committed before this year’s festival is over.

Tickets can be found HERE.

How it came to be

Parker, who regularly books entertainment at Sculley’s, started considering a major rock festival in North Platte in 2010 after the Comstock festivals floundered.

Parker gained support from his friend Justin Murr who is in a big Christian Hard Rock project called Liberty N Justice.

“We’d seen festivals all around the country but not in the Midwest,” Parker said. Murr became a partner in Skull Fest.

Murr writes Christian songs and works with 80s rock singers to perform them, so he had contacts with the bands.

Just a few of the bands coming will be Jack Russell (the lead singer of Great White), Black N Blue, Michael Sweet and Oz Fox (Stryper), Leatherwolf, MASS, White Cross, Killer Dwarfs, Rhinobucket as well many more nationally known acts, including Pasty Jenny and the Chicago group, Loveblast.

Music starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The shows don’t stop until closing time each night.

“We started planning way back in February,” Parker said. “Initially it was going to be a single day with five bands and then it exploded.”

Parker said several acts signed contracts and, in one case, was completely paid, but backed out of the show.

“It has made it very difficult to know how to finalize the line-up when bands just drop out with virtually no notice,” he said. “That being said, we are really pleased with the line-up we have assembled. We are bringing a large number of acts to North Platte that many people have likely not had the chance to see, even back in the bands’ heyday, because the bands didn’t tour through small towns like North Platte.”

Parker, 43, is originally from Hershey and teaches at North Platte High School in the Transition in Educational Settings program, working with students who are coming back into school from intervention or outside programs. Many of them are foster children.

Parker formerly managed the Railfest/NebraskaLand Days Strongman contest with Tommy Vieyra. He and his wife have also volunteered with the North Platte Salvation Army Christmas program for 15 years. Skull Fest proceeds will go to the Salvation Army, and the Epelipsy Foundation, Murr’s favorite charity.
