Senate cuts deal, House followsTell North Platte what you think

Despite a valiant, extreme attempt to create some strong conservative government policies, the U.S. House of Representatives followed the Senate late Wednesday night and caved to pressure to reopen the government.

The Senate voted 81-19 late Wednesday in favor of an agreement negotiated by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to keep the government fully funded into early next year.

The deal also tentatively set the table for more negotiations on the budget and government spending.

The House vote was 285-144.

The agreement makes no significant changes in President Obama’s healthcare reform, something a strong core of House Republicans had staunchly demanded, according to a Chicago Times report.

However, the deal ends a political standoff that shut down federal programs for 16 days and it will put hundreds of thousands of federal workers back on the payroll.
