The men said it happened while they were in their room at the Country Inn, 321 S. Dewey. The victims said Haworth was intoxicated at the time, and he threatened them, tried to harm them with the knife and said he intended to “kill them.”

Officers found Haworth at the Country Inn, put him under arrest and charged him with terroristic threats and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

Bond is set at $50,000.

Meth and children

A woman is in jail for smoking meth in a room with her children, while police continue to look for the man who was with her.

On Oct. 2, police received a complaint that the man and woman were smoking methamphetamine in the presence of two children, ages 1 and 2.

Police went to check on the children’s welfare to the Lazy K Motel, 3605 Rodeo Rd., and found Jeremy Zona, 33, and Dusty Swanson, 23.

They found evidence of drug use. Subsequently, hair follicles of the children were tested that turned out to be positive for meth/amphetamines on two of three children, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.

On the morning of Oct. 12, an officer found Swanson and charged her with felony child abuse, plus possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Police caught up with Zona on Wednesday. Brown said he was found in a home outside the city limits and arrested without incident.

Swanson’s bond is set at $10,000. As of Thursday afternoon, Zona's bond had not been set.

Drunken woman

A weekend morning traffic stop on U.S. Highway 6 about seven miles west of Palisade led to the arrest of a Chase County woman for her 5th offense of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Just before 11 a.m. on Oct. 12, a NSP dispatch center in North Platte received a call from a concerned motorist that a white Jeep SUV was all over the roadway.

NSP spokeswoman Deb Collins said a short time later a trooper saw a vehicle matching the description driving erratically, eastbound on U.S. 6. The trooper pulled the car over. Approaching the vehicle, he smelled the strong odor of alcohol, Collins said.

Marci A. Burgess, 46, of Wauneta, failed a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test. Burgess was lodged in the Chase County Jail on a charge of 5th offense DUI, a felony, Collins said.
