Rural Gothenburg man shot, cops seek suspectsTell North Platte what you think

The Dawson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting of a man who was found Saturday night in a cornfield near Gothenburg.

The sheriff's deputies, the state patrol and Gothenburg police searched the cornfield on foot and by airplane and found Patrick M. Hollis, 47, with a gunshot wound to his lower left side, Dawson County Sheriff Gary Reiber said.

Officers first responded to a complaint of trespassing and gun shots fired at the unspecified rural home. The complaint came at 10:30 p.m. Reiber said a woman told officers that Hollis was in the field.

Reiber also said investigators believe some other men also ran into the field, but no other suspects were found there, Reiber said.

The Nebraska State Patrol Air Wing division conducted the search from above.

Hollis was taken to Gothenburg Memorial Hospital and then by ambulance to Good Samaritan in Kearney, Reiber said.

Reiber said the investigation is continuing.
