Mail: Blue Cross-Blue Shield cries 'wolf' Tell North Platte what you think

In the Oct. 10 Telegraph story on the contract dispute between Blue Cross Blue Shield (BC/BS) and the local obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYN), a BC/BS representative is quoted as saying the insurance company is trying to "keep healthcare affordable" for its members.

Year after year BC/BS has continued to cut the amounts it will pay to local doctors and our hospital. Some cuts are greater than others. The BC/BS representative infers that they continue cutting payments to local doctors and healthcare providers in an attempt to reduce our healthcare costs.

But if the insurance company keeps cutting what it will pay our local physicians and our local hospital, and our premiums stay the same or go up, where is that savings going?

It would appear that it is being retained by the insurance company.

So rather than blaming doctors or the hospital, it might be appropriate for BC/BS to explain why we aren't seeing a reduction in our health insurance premiums when the company is paying our doctors and hospital less every year.
