High school students will tour the Lincoln County courthouse and talk to officeholders on Thursday, Oct. 17, during County Government Day.

The Lincoln County Commissioners, the Veteranís Service Officer/American Legion Post Commander and the UNL Extension and county officials have organized this educational day to engage students to explore their county government.

All Lincoln County high schools will be represented, with approximately 180 students participating. Students will learn about county government and tour the county jail all while utilizing cell phones to check each affiliated website.

"Yes, we are encouraging students to bring their cell phones and become an active participate in the 2013 Lincoln County Government Day," organizer Brenda Aufdenkamp said.

The students will gather at 9 a.m. in the district courtroom at the Lincoln County Courthouse, where they will be placed into groups to visit each office as well as the detention center.

Students will be transported to the county road department at 1020 Rodeo Road for lunch compliments of NebraskaLand National Bank and First National Bank.

Door prizes will be given following lunch compliments of many area businesses, Aufdenkamp said.
