On Sept. 11, the North Platte community had the opportunity to support local heroes and become heroes themselves during the Huskeradio Battle of the Badges Blood Drive. The event was a competition between area law enforcement departments and the North Platte Fire Department, with the 123 pints of blood collected that day.The true winners were the patients served by the American Red Cross.
We are grateful to the North Platte Police Department, North Platte Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s office and Nebraska State Patrol Troop B for not only leading the recruitment effort but also inspiring others with their donations. By giving blood, they helped serve this community in another lifesaving way.
It was an honor to partner with Huskeradio to help pay tribute to local first responders and boost the blood supply. Beyond promoting the event, the Huskeradio team volunteered, gave blood and made arrangements for special refreshments for the event.
Special thanks go out to Domino’s Pizza, Subway, Walgreens and Canteen Bar & Grill for providing food and drinks for donors. Also deserving recognition are the volunteers at North Platte RSVP and Quality Inn & Suites for allowing the use of its conference hall.
And, above all, the Red Cross wants to extend a sincere thank you to the 119 blood donors who made this year’s Battle of the Badges the most successful yet. Each pint that was given helps ensure that the Red Cross is able to meet the needs of patients at Great Plains Regional Medical Center and approximately 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers across the county.
We appreciate the North Platte community for making the Battle of the Badges a community tradition and helping the Red Cross fulfill its lifesaving mission.
