Santa showed up at Rail Fest in his shades and his bike.
The North Platte American Legion Riders Post 163 hope to join the North Platte community and surrounding communities, as well as motorcycle enthusiasts, to put on a hamburger feed on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Hamburgers will be served from 11:30 a.m-2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 2020 East Fourth in North Platte.
The purpose of the feed is to help raise money for the Santa Toy Ride, when bikers deliver toys in December in time for Christmas.
Donations of any kind would be accepted (toys, clothes, etc.), organizers said.
The meal will include hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, salads, desserts, coffee, tea and water for $5 a plate (larger donations will be accepted).
Then in December, anyone that wants can either ride a bike to deliver gifts with Santa or a flatbed trailer with hay bales that will be provided. Santa rides with the group on their deliveries and even showed up on his bike at Rail Fest, when a "toy run" fundraiser was held.
Santa may even show up for the dinner on Oct. 19, organizers say.
At this time, the groups that have agreed to help out include the American Legion Riders, North Platte Goldwing Touring Association and the North Platte Christian Motorcycle Association.
You need not belong to a group or own a bike to participate. Organizers want this to be open to the entire community.
To donate a salad and a dessert, please e-mail email@example.com or call or text (308-636-8204) with the type of dish you will bring.
We will put this out on the television and radio stations a well as in the news papers plus placing a few flyers too. We need all the support we can get so please pass this on to anyone and everyone you feel might like to have a yummy grilled burger to help put a little hope and a smile on some child's face.
The deadline is really short so will need people to respond right away. Thank you in advance.
