The 2013 Steppin' Out for Education and Bulldog Backyard Bar-B-Q on Sept. 20 raised $62,555.19, a new record.
All 13 North Platte public schools participated in Steppin' Out for Education and together they raised $27,136.32, the most that has been raised in any year since the event was first organized in 2005, organizers said.
McDonald Elementary broke the record for largest check for a school with $4,455.31. McDonald was also the school with the largest growth in fundraising, as they were up nearly three times as much as in 2012.
Osgood was the school with the highest participation level at 61 percent.
The Bulldog Backyard Bar-B-Q, which was held before North Platte High School's football game against Bellevue East. A total of 32 teams competed for honors that were voted on by the crowd.
The fan favorite for the Bar-B-Q was the NPHS Class of '92.
Gary Jones and his Buck Snort BBQ was voted for both Best Chicken and Best Pork. First National Bank was voted Best Beef.
The NPHS FCCLA Grillers were voted the Best Dessert and Best Other went to Equitable Bank.
The twin fundraisers have raised a total of $321,263.01 since Steppin' Out for Education began in 2005.
