Softball: North Platte heads to conference tourneyTell North Platte what you think

The North Platte softball team will be in action Saturday, Oct. 5 in Columbus at the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference Championship. The GNAC includes Columbus, Hastings, Kearney, Lexington, McCook, Norfolk and Scottsbluff.

The North Platte High School softball team finished the regular season with an impressive 19-9 record.

The team had notable wins over several top 10 rated teams in three classes.

They defeated Class B No. 1 rated and then undefeated Omaha Skutt Catholic, Class B No. 5 rated Milford, & Class A No. 10 rated Lincoln East, in one day in one tournament early in the season in Lincoln.

They also defeated Class B No. 10 rated McCook early in the season.

On Tuesday, North Platte won the last game of the regular season with a gritty 4-3 victory over Class C No. 7 rated Gothenburg.

North Platte also played Class A No. 3 Lincoln North Star very tough in a 10-6 loss in the championship game of the North Platte Invitational.

North Platte is ranked 8th in the state, according to the Nebraska School Activities Association.
