An eight-year-old Sutherland boy was hit by a pickup and killed around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on a Sutherland residential street.
The boy, Zachery Tyrell, was playing in the street, lying on his stomach on a skateboard, according to a Nebraska State Patrol investigator.
Tyrell was going west at 1220 W. Locust St. about three blocks west of Sutherland Public School. The pickup, driven by Bruce Rotert, 55, of Sutherland was also going west.
An autopsy is scheduled Friday, a routine procedure in the death of a child.
Neither alcohol or high speed are suspected and no citations have been issued.
