Racing against a strong set of cross country runners, Wyatt McGuire of North Platte finished third Monday at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Invitational.
McGuire completed the course in 16:17.90, finishing behind Millard West runners Seth Hirsch and Austin Post.
The meet often draws the best runners in the state to the Kearney Country Club.
Hirsch, an up and coming freshman, won the race at 15:59.25. Post, a senior who finished sixth in the state last year, was second at 16:10.76
More than 200 runners competed in the boys’ race.
Fremont had five runners in the top 50 and won first place.
Papillion-LaVista South was second and Millard West, with Hirsch and Post, were third.
The NPHS boys' team finished 13th in the 15 team meet. Brandon Edwards was the second North Platte runner to cross the finish line, finishing in 68th place.
The NPHS girls were 13th out of 16 teams in the meet.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Libby Burrows and Talia Martinez, who finished 73rd and 75th, respectively.
Jeralyn Poe of Lincoln North Star won the girls’ race. Anna Herlbut and Emily Berzonsky of Lincoln Southwest finished second and third to help the Silverhawks win the team title.
