Three training cars – a Ford, a Pontiac and a Dodge – have been cut in half so North Platte Community College students have easier access to the inner mechanics.
“It really helps the students have a clearer view and more accessibility when things are out in the open like they are on these cars,” said Automotive Instructor Mike Janecek. “It allows them to learn the finer skills they need to get their jobs done.”
Janecek spent the better part of the summer modifying the cars for second-year automotive students this fall.
There are plans to add three more training vehicles to the fleet next year, he said.
“We also plan to take the cars to high schools to promote the college’s automotive program,” Janecek said.
