The St. Patrick's Catholic Church and First United Methodist Church will host a community-wide Blessing of the Animals service on Sunday, Oct. 6.
The service will be under the gazebo at Memorial Park on East Fourth in North Platte. The service will begin at 3 p.m. There will be scripture, a message and singing in celebration of pets and other creatures in God's kingdom. Pets in attendance will receive a special blessing. There will be a time to memorialize pets that have passed.
People can take their animal companions to worship and celebrate the bond of creation. Everyone is invited to attend.
If you bring your pet, for everyone's comfort, please have them on a leash, in a carrier, or in a cage. Refreshments will be provided for pets. People in attendance will receive a St. Francis of Assisi prayer card.
The Blessing of the Animals recognizes the unique bond between people and pets, organizers say.
The Blessing of the Animals is usually celebrated on the Sunday closest to St. Francis' Feast Day (Oct. 4).
Throughout the Christian world, the Blessing of the Animals is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures.
