Tom Osborne brought his TeamMates mentoring vision to North Platte Community College on Wednesday.
Tom and Nancy Osborne founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 in an effort to support and encourage to school age youth.
The program currently provides a mentor for more than 6,500 youth in Nebraska and Iowa.
Osborne has long advocated the importance of mentoring, since he was head coach of the Huskers. While serving in Congress, he led efforts to provide more funds for mentoring programs.
He is not finished yet. Osborne's vision is to serve 10,000 youth and be nationally recognized as the leading school-based mentoring program by 2015, Osborne said.
TeamMates is referred to as the “one hour difference,” because mentors devote an hour per week to make a positive difference in the life of a child.
