A former manager of a Planned Parenthood clinic will talk about the organization from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the Quality Inn & Suites in North Platte.

Sue Thayer managed a Planned Parenthood clinic for nearly 18 years in Storm Lake, Iowa. But Thayer was fired in December 2008 when webcam, or telemedicine, abortions were introduced, according to her sponsors.

Disillusioned with Planned Parenthood’s practices that she believes foster abortion, Thayer led a 40 Days for Life campaign in Storm Lake and the clinic that fired her was eventually closed.

After she lost her job, she opened at pro-life, non-profit Cornerstone for Life Pregnancy Resource Center.

Thayer is a mother of six children. Three of them are adopted.

Thayer's appearance in North Platte is another in a series of events by opponents of a Planned Parenthood clinic in North Platte.

In April 2011, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland announced they were considering opening a facility in North Platte, and there has been consistent opposition in North Platte since.

Western Nebraska Community for Life, a pro-life organization, is sponsoring Thayer’s presentation.

Since 1973, there have been 178,963 induced abortions in Nebraska, including 2,299 in 2012, according to Western Nebraska Community for Life.
