The first production of the 2013-14 playhouse season in North Platte -- Noises Off -- opens Saturday Sept. 28.

Called the funniest farce ever written, Noises Off presents a manic menagerie as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing's On. Doors slamming, on and backstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of the hilarious play.

Director Clayton Hill calls Noises Off a "British bedroom farce."

"It contains all the elements that are common to almost every farce," Hill said. "Many doors through which actors enter and exit and breakneck speed, in the nick of time to not be seen be other actors; stock characters, mistaken identity, partial disrobement, silly plots, lots of physical humor and split-second timing handling props.

Hill appeared in the playhouse production of Mister Roberts. Before coming to North Platte, he spent years acting and directing in his permanent home, Newport News, Va.

Noises Off is the first of four main-stage productions at the Playhouse this season.

Performances are Sept. 28-29, with additional performances on Oct. 4-6.

The Friday and both Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m., with both Sunday performances beginning at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. Season memberships are also available for $50.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.northplattecommunityplayhouse.com, at the Playhouse (301 E. 5th) from noon-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, by calling (308) 532-8559 or at the door before any performance.
