A sport utility vehicle was virtually destroyed Friday near Hershey and three teenagers were badly injured.

Justin Duca, 16, of North Platte was driving the SUV. He was badly injured and was flown to a Denver hospital.

Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, deputies were asked to respond to Oregon Trail Road southeast of Hershey, where an eastbound 2002 Ford Explorer Sport drove into the ditch, flipped end-over-end several times and ejected three occupants.

Deputies and a Hershey-Sutherland rescue team found the three teenagers were hurt so badly they could not leave the scene without medical assistance, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office said.

Two other passengers were also injured: North Platte resident Victor Grandy, 18, and Hershey resident Wyatt Edington, 17.

A fourth passenger, 10-year-old Hershey resident Kaiden Vondal was not seriously injured.

Vondal was the only one who was wearing a seatbelt, the sheriff said.

Duca was driving over the speed limit. He told investigators he lost control and went into the ditch and the vehicle flipped several times.

Alcohol was not a factor in the wreck, the sheriff said.
