Softball: North Platte falls to Lincoln North Star in championshipTell North Platte what you think

The Class B No. 8 rated North Platte High softball team went 2-1 and finished second Saturday in the North Platte Invitational.

North Platte suffered a scare in game one against Gering (13-4). North Platte went up 4-0; however, Gering took the lead 6-5 in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, with time expired, and North Platte facing a trip to the loser's bracket, Jenny Keck stepped to the plate with one out and the tying run at second. Keck hit a line-drive walk-off homerun.

The Lady Dawgs (16-7) advanced to face Kearney in game two.

Mikenzi Wiseman went 2-3 with a double and a RBI and Keck was 1-3 with the game winning home run.

Keck got the win for North Platte and Marissa Ramos recorded the save.

Against Kearney (9-11), Wiseman had two extra base hits as North Platte took home a 5-1 victory in seven innings. She went 3-4 with 2 doubles in the first and sixth innings and a single in the seventh inning.

North Platte was sparked by Wiseman and Ramos, who teamed up for five hits and four RBI.

The Lady Dawgs went up for good in the first, scoring two runs on a two-run double by Wiseman.

North Platte built upon it's lead with two runs in the seventh. Ramos kicked things off with a single, plating Rachel Kosmacek. That was followed up by a Wiseman single, scoring Ramos.

Jenny Keck went 2-3 with an RBI and Ramos got the win in the circle.

The championship game featured a battle of top 10 rated teams and North Platte took on Class A No. 5 Lincoln North Star (19-3).

North Platte lost 10-6 in five innings, despite outhitting Lincoln North Star eight to seven.

North Platte took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, but North Star stormed back to take a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fourth the Lady Dawgs would tack on two more runs before Wiseman's 2-run double down the third baseline would put North Platte up 6-5. Northstar answered with a big fourth inning of their own as they would go up 10-6 for good.

Hannah Hays went 3-4, Wiseman was 2-3 with 2 RBI, and Ramos went 2-4 with 2 RBI.

Keck and Ramos shared pitching duties.

The No.8 Lady Dawgs will be in action in McCook Tuesday for a doubleheader.
