FB: Bellevue East 54, NPHS 19Tell North Platte what you think

In a scene that has become all too familiar to North Platte fans, Bellevue East thrashed the Bulldogs 54-19 on Friday night at Bauer Field.

Bellevue East (2-2) received the ball to start the game and on the first play from scrimmage, Chieftain running back Tristan Moore ran for a gain of about 40 yards to near the NPHS 30.

The North Platte defense then forced Bellevue East into a third down situation but it was converted by Moore with a 10-yard gain to the 15.

The Chieftains were called for holding on the following play, but Moore then took it into the end zone from 25 yards out.

The Bulldog offense got one first down on a scramble by quarterback Shane Mauch before punting it away.

Bellevue East again got to the doorstep when Trev Lovell completed a pass to Brady Pelzer from midfield. The Chieftains scored the next play.

On the first play of NPHS' second drive, Mauch was intercepted by Pelzer, who returned the ball to the one, where Bellevue East scored again to make it 20-0.

North Platte ended the disastrous first quarter on a positive note. Its defense stopped Bellevue East on the next two possessions with the second ending on an interception in the end zone by sophomore Marcos Reyes.

Mauch then led the offense down the field and the 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior put the Dawgs (0-4) on the scoreboard with a 15-yard touchdown run on the final play of the quarter.

But the defense, once again, couldn't sustain the momentum. The Chieftains marched down the field and put another touchdown on the board. Bellevue East scored another touchdown right before halftime to make the score 34-7 at the break.

Bellevue East added two more scores right away in the second half with a 46-yard touchdown pass from Lovell to Pelzer and a pick six by Malcolm Barrett against Mauch.

Mauch scored two more touchdowns in the second half, one on the ground and the other through the air to Alec Wesslund, to make the score look a little better for the Bulldogs. But ultimately, he couldn't rescue NPHS in another subpar defensive effort.
