Brenda McCarthy, also known as Brenda Lee, 39, of North Platte received a 1½-3 year sentence Monday in the penitentiary on two charges of terroristic threats.

McCarthy was arrested on April 9 for threatening a man and woman with a chainsaw and a shotgun. At the time, she had been out of the jail only four days after serving 52 days for domestic assault and driving under suspension.

Police were called to the 1700 block of West 14th and while talking with her, the officer came to believe she was under the influence of something and decided to detain her. She later tested positive for meth.

In a plea deal charges of felon in possession and using a firearm to commit a felony were dropped as was one charge of assault. McCarthy got credit for 167 days spent in the county lockup.

Lincoln County District Judge Donald Rowlands cited her extensive record in handing down the penitentiary sentence. McCarthy’s record shows 20 visits to the county jail since 2004.

The list of charges includes assaults, use of a weapon, terroristic threats, cruelty to a child and theft. She has also been charged with cocaine possession, resisting arrest, false reporting, driving under the influence and driving under suspension.
