North Platte cross country runner Wyatt McGuire returned to action Saturday and won the Kearney High School meet, outdistancing the field.
McGuire, who has been out of action in recent weeks, toured the course in 16 minutes, 3.02 seconds, nearly 40 seconds ahead of Wyatt McLeod of Lincoln Northeast, who finished second in 16:42.2.
Third place went to Frank Cuddy of Lincoln High, who was more than a minute behind McGuire in 17:05.37.
The meet featured some of the best runners in the state. Kearney High won both the boys and girls divisions. Five Kearney runners finished in the top 11 in the boys race. The Kearney girls did better, placing five runners in the top 10.
North Platte was fifth out of five teams in both divisions.
Next to McGuire, the best North Platte boys time was by Christian Bradley, who was 19th in 18:53.63. North Platte runners also finished 22nd, 24th, 27th, 29th and 30th.
Megan Sughroue of Kearney won the girls race in 10:35.38.
Kearney runners finished 1, 2, 3 and 9 and 10 in the race, posting a team score that was more than twice as good as any other team.
North Platte's Talia Martinez was 11th.
In junior varsity competition, Tanner Haws of North Platte was fifth in the boys race. North Platte's Victoria Tockey was 16th in the girls.
