VB: Hershey runner-up at Lexington InviteTell North Platte what you think

The Hershey volleyball team got the season off to a good start on Sept. 7 with a runner-up finish at the Lexington Invitational.

The Lady Panthers fell 25-18, 25-19 to St. Paul in the championship match.

“St. Paul is a fundamentally sound team that handles the ball well, said Hershey coach Amy Beyer. “We did not serve tough enough to take them out of system, offensively. That is something that we have to improve upon and we will continue to work on it. But it was a pretty good first outing.”

The Panthers opened the tournament with a 25-11, 25-12 win over SPVA rival Imperial.

Beyer said that her team came out with a lot of energy and they had a strong overall game.

In the semifinals, Hershey swept Broken Bow 25-21, 25-13.

Beyer said that the Lady Panthers overcame a slow start in the match to put away the Indians and move into the finals.

“We let up mentally coming into that match we did not execute as well in serve-receive and serving, early on,” she said. “Fortunately, we did respond and show better focus to finish.”

Brooke Munsen had a team-high 27 kills in the tournament and Maegan Hiatt followed with 19.

Bobbi Brannan had 44 combined set assists and Shawnie Stone-Swedberg had 13.
