Teen charged with felony escapeTell North Platte what you think

On June 23, officers went to 1100 block of S. Tabor on a report of a 17-year-old teenage boy who broke out of a transport vehicle for juveniles.

The vehicle was taking the teen, Caelan Long, to a youth detention center. It had stopped to release a different juvenile. Long disabled a motor in the rear window, allowing him to just push the window open and escape, according to a North Platte Police report.

Officers arrived but weren't able to find Long, even though he was wearing an electronic monitor on his ankle. Police said he damaged the ankle bracelet to the point it wouldn't work.

Officers followed leads and eventually found Long on July 8, acting on a tip that he was at an apartment complex at 700 E. Philip.

Long was arrested and charged with escape, criminal mischief (misdemeanor) for damaging the window motor and criminal mischief (felony) for damaging the ankle bracelet.

On Thursday, he was officially booked into jail as an adult. He faces additional charges of theft, minor in possession and false reporting.

His bond was set at $200,000.
