The North Platte softball team (6-1) swept Lexington in a doubleheader Tuesday night at home at the Dowhower Softball Complex.
North Platte pounded Lexington in game one, 8-0, in six innings. North Platte scored four runs in the sixth to seal the deal. Hannah Hays had an RBI single and two Lexington errors helped North Platte's cause.
It was a good night at the plate for Hays who went 2-4, drove in one, and scored two runs.
Kaite Franzen was in control on the mound. Lexington managed just one hit off Franzen, who walked one and struck out four during her six innings of work.
North Platte had a two-out rally in the third inning, scoring on a two-run double by Mikenzi Wiseman.
North Platte added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A Lexington error scored Christina Yoshida to open the frame. That was followed by Franzen's RBI single.
Come from behind
An all-around effort led North Platte to a come-from-behind 4-3 win in game two of the doubleheader.
Marissa Ramos shut down Lexington while she was in the pitching circle. Lexington managed just two hits off Ramos, who allowed one earned run, walked one, and struck out three during 4 and 2/3 innings of work.
In the top of the first, Lexington took an early lead, 1-0.
Lexington's threat began with a single by MacKenzie McKeone. McKeone moved from first to second on an error and she scored on a sacrifice fly.
North Platte entered the bottom of the fifth trailing 3-0, but responded with two runs on an RBI double by Sally Hengen and an RBI single by Hays.
Rachel Kosmacek helped North Platte take the lead for good in the sixth. Ramos reached on an error to get on base in the sixth. Ramos's courtesy runner Abby Jones then went from first to second on a stolen base.
Kosmacek's clutch RBI single scored Jones and put North Platte up for good.
Jenny Keck got the save in the final two innings.
North Platte will be in action Thursday in Kearney against Lincoln High and Lincoln East.
