Stephanie K. Foster
Stephanie K. Foster, 37, of North Platte, was formally charged Friday with domestic assault and false imprisonment in Lincoln County Court. Foster was arrested the day before after the man she was living with called the police. He had suffered bites and told police that Foster wouldn’t let him leave their Rodeo Road apartment.
In court, Foster first appeared on a video screen from the jail, but could not concentrate on what was going on. She got a bit belligerent when she was told that false imprisonment was added to her charges. She interrupted Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull several times to say that the officers who arrested her lied, and she loudly complained that she had not been told of the false imprisonment charge.
Turnbull repeatedly said the latest charge was being added right there in court, but Foster wanted no part of cooperating. Turnbull sent her back to her cell and ordered her to be escorted in person to the courthouse later in the day.
She was still defiant and noisy when jailers brought her to the court house. They stopped outside the door at first and took her to a room off to the side to calm down. She claimed she had a medical problem and she appeared to either be going through drug withdrawal or still under the influence of a substance.
After a short break, Foster was brought into the courtroom. She glared from her seat and could not concentrate on the proceedings. Her mood shifted from defiant to tearful. She said she had been attacked by three different men.
Turnbull finally conveyed the charges to her and said he was assigning a public defender. He told her she should discuss the details of the incident with her attorney.
Turnbull asked her if she was still under the influence of a substance and Foster said she hadn’t “smoked any for a few days.”
Foster’s bond was set at $10,000.
She was still unsteady on her feet as she was led out of the courtroom. She was confused and the jailers had to help her, leaving little doubt that she was under the influence.
Foster was in jail in March 2007 for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in the arm during a domestic argument. She has a long record of arrests, dating back to 1996. Her record shows aggravated assaults, criminal mischief, simple assaults, use of a weapon, joyriding, vehicle theft, disturbing the peace and trespassing, as well as shoplifting, driving under suspension, protection order violations, failure to appear and 14 charges of contempt of court.
