Lady Dawg softball team splits openerTell North Platte what you think

The North Platte High School softball team hosted a double-header in Hastings Friday and came away with a 1-1 record to open the season.

North Platte took on Omaha Gross in game one. Gross was ahead 2-3 when junior Catcher Mikenzi Wiseman stepped to the Platte with two runners on base.

Wiseman blasted a three-run home run to put North Platte ahead 5-3 and the Lady Dawgs never looked back as they cruised to a 12-3 victory in six-innings.

Freshman Willow Chitty and junior Marissa Ramos were hot from the plate and junior Kaite Franzen was solid on the pitching mound for the Lady Bulldogs.

In game two, North Platte took on No. 1 ranked Omaha Skutt. Skutt's pitcher, Husker recruit Kaylan Jablonski, proved to be too much for the North Platte batters to handle. Skutt defeated North Platte 6-1 in seven-innings.

Ramos and junior Jenny Keck shared pitching duties.

North Platte is in action Saturday, Aug. 31 against Skutt, Lincoln East, and Milford in Lincoln.
