Oct. 4 will be the date for the 19th annual First National Bank Chili (and soup) Cook-off to benefit the United Way.
The time is 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
This year, the cook-off will be held downtown to at the original location -- First National Bank, 201 N Dewey.
The first cook-off 19 years ago was held in the lobby of First National Bank with about four employee booths and competitors, to raise money and awareness for the United Way.
Although the cause is still the same, the cook-off has grown to nearly 20 different booths, hosted by local businesses and organizations.
First National bank is accepting registrations from businesses and organizations who would like to participate. Businesses and civic groups may register at First National Bank downtown to reserve their booth space, or contact Kirsten Parker at (308) 535-6372 or email@example.com.
Booth space is free, however, space is limited to first 20 registered.
The chili cook-off is open to anyone in the community Admission is $6, which will include a bowl, spoon, bottled water and voting tickets. Patrons are encouraged to visit the different booths to sample and vote for their favorites -- Best Chili, Best Soup, Best Booth and Peopleís Choice.
Additional voting tickets will be available for $2 each or 3 for $5.
Stuffing the ballots is encouraged as all proceeds will benefit the Mid-Plains United Way and their agencies.
