Sean McCarthy, 42, of North Platte, was convicted Monday of one count of forgery in a deal in which another count of forgery was dropped, as well as one count of theft.

McCarthy pled no contest to the charges.

Police said McCarthy wrote bad checks in March at SunMart, Wal-Mart, and Gary’s Super Foods.

He faces a mandatory sentence of at least a year and a maximum of 20 years.

A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing set for Aug. 26.

Also, Lori Lee Trew, 39, of North Platte, pled not guilty of forgery and theft by deception, third offense.

Trew was arrested in February 2012 for shoplifting. She has two prior convictions for theft, including four arrests for bad checks.

She also has two shoplifting cases pending in county court. If convicted of forgery, Trew could be behind bars for up to five years.
