North Platte petty criminal arrested againTell North Platte what you think

A North Platte man with a history of petty crimes is behind bars again, after he was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing beer from Casey’s on E. Fourth.

Police were dispatched to Casey’s General Store at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday on a report of an intoxicated male subject who ran from the store with a six-pack of Budweiser.

The store staff said that after confronting the suspect, Kyle Veirs, 26, they found the beer in a dumpster.

When an officer arrived, he found Veirs intoxicated and still on the property, police information officer Rodney Brown said. Veirs was arrested and incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center for theft by shoplifting. The charge was upgraded to a felony due to prior arrests of Veirs.

Veirs recently served a month in the Lincoln County jail for misdemeanor theft. He was released July 16, according to sheriff’s records.

Veirs has been arrested 13 times since November 2011, charged with crimes such as disturbing the peace, assault, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, aiding and abetting theft, theft by taking and trespassing.

On Aug. 10, a witness said he went into Big Red Liquor, but was intoxicated and was told to leave. He returned later, grabbed a bottle of rum and tried to run off. An employee caught him and held him until police arrived, prosecutors said.
