At around 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, a police officer on patrol spotted a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora with no license plates.

The car was heading east on West Fourth, near Ash. The officer stopped the Olds, which was driven by Patrick Hamilton, and also carried and a male passenger.

Police information officer Rodney Brown said the cop smelled burnt marijuana and a pipe inside the car.

Hamilton was subsequently searched, which turned up a small amount of marijuana and a meth pipe.

Officers determined Hamilton was also driving under suspension, for which he was arrested and taken to the Lincoln County Detention Center.

When Hamilton was searched again at the jail during booking, a small container of white crystals that field tested positive as methamphetamine was also found.

In addition to the driving under suspension, Hamilton is charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and paraphernalia and also possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, which is a felony.
