A motorcycle sped by a deputy on patrol Saturday afternoon and tried to pop a wheelie on U.S. Highway 83 at the North River Bridge.
The deputy turned around to try to stop the motorcycle, but the driver sped at a high rate of speed, the sheriff said.
The deputy chased the cycle and rider into Green Acres Trailer Court just off North River Road, where the rider ran and hid in a mobile home, but he was eventually found and arrested.
North Platte resident Ryan Craighead, 21, was charged around 6 p.m. for misdemeanor flight to avoid arrest and exhibition of acceleration.
Ironically, Craighead told investigators had just left a “Stop” class -- a defensive driving class that he took because of a previous traffic ticket.
Deputies confirmed Craighead was a student in the class, but he apparently didn't take the lessons to heart.
