Tara Baker, 29, of North Platte was charged with burglary Saturday after a complaint that she tried to hammer her way into a mobile home.

Police got a call at 11 a.m. and went to the 2400 block of W. Ninth on the report of a woman attempting to break in to a residence at that location with a hammer. Baker had drove away by the time police arrived, but officers found her at her home in the 1500 block of W. First, according to a police report.

Baker told police that she tried to break in to the home to check on a friend, who she said needed her help.

At first, Baker was cited and released for criminal mischief because of the damage she did to the rented trailer. Following more investigation, police determined there was probable cause to believe Baker went to the trailer to steal something.

Baker was found again and arrested for burglary and possession of burglary tools (both felonies) and jailed.
