The North Platte blues music festival will not be held as planned, promoter Louie Herrick announced Tuesday. Herrick said advance ticket sales have not met expectations, so he is calling off the weekend festival, which was scheduled for July 19-20.
The festival dates back 15 years. Featuring top-name blues musicians, it was held in Arnold on the banks of the South Loup River until 2011, when organizers there announced they would no longer put it together.
Herrick brought the festival to North Platte a year ago to the Lincoln Highway RV Park, a spacious shady campgrounds on the west edge of town.
Herrick thanked the many sponsors and contributors to the event. He said he regretted the decision, and advance tickets will be refunded.
