The bell is on display at Nebraskaland National Bank, North Platte’s prime sponsor of Rail Fest. The winning ticket will be drawn on the final day of Rail Fest, Sept. 22.

The bell came to North Platte through the Union Pacific Employees Club No. 8. The club bought 30 tickets in a Friend to Friend raffle two months ago in Texas and held the winner out of 4,000 tickets, said Deloyt Young of North Platte.

Members decided to raffle it again and raise money for local efforts.

The Friend to Friend Network was created in July 2004 to help Union Pacific employees, retirees and their families (spouses and children) in time of need.

Over the years, the charity has helped victims of major tragedies from weather disasters, health problems, fires and evacuations. The network is run by active and retired employees of the Union Pacific Railroad, and 100% of the donations collected go directly to the railroad families in need. The Union Pacific company pays the administrative costs.

Young hopes to raise another $4,000 in North Platte.

“I’m not putting a limit on it,” Young said. “Hopefully we can raise more.”

Tickets will be sold at the Lincoln County-North Platte Visitor’s Center, the Golden Spike observation tower, as well as all Nebraskaland National Bank locations, Young said.

Raffle tickets are $1 each, plus volume discounts. The winner will be drawn at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.
