North Platte police chased a suspected Wal-Mart shoplifter Tuesday to the South Platte River before they finally caught him.

Police Information Officer Rodney Brown said at around 1:30 p.m. police responded to Wal-Mart about a reported male shoplifter who fled the area on foot.

The Wal-Mart staff said Roger Noonan, 18, stole a watch and ran away from the store, headed southwest towards the Platte River.

Officers searched and found Noonan, but he refused to obey them and stop, so they chased him to the river, where he was eventually caught and arrested, Brown said.

Noonan was taken to the Lincoln County Jail, charged with theft by shoplifting, and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. His bond is set at $5,000.
