Downtown businesses collect for Rape, Domestic Abuse countermeasuresTell North Platte what you think

The Great Plains Regional Medical Center is seeking to stretch community contribution dollars by collaborating with local downtown businesses to raise money for the Rape and Domestic Abuse Program.

The Depot restaurant, Hirschfeld’s, The Old TownSquare, Discount Vac and Sew and the Eagles Club will accept cash donations to RDAP of any amount through July 14.

The contributions will be matched with what Great Plains Regional Medical Center has already raised by employees and the hospital together, which totaled $2,750, said Fiona Libsack, vice president of marketing and communications.

In the last year, RDAP has served 593 unduplicated clients and supplied a safe place to stay 3,464 times. They provide emergency shelter, food, 24-hour crisis line, support groups, medical and legal advocacy, educational materials, speakers and assistance with protection orders and referrals.

“We are eternally grateful that the people of North Platte still embody the Canteen Spirit,” said Mahaila Botts, RDAP community educator.

“These donations will help feed, clothe, and shelter many families as they try to make their own way, simply wanting to live free from fear and abuse,” she said.

To participate in the RDAP community-wide contribution campaign, bring a donation to The Depot, Hirschfeld’s, The Old TownSquare, Discount Vac and Sew or the Eagles Club by July 14. Checks should be made payable directly to the Rape and Domestic Violence Program.

“Donations like these are such a blessing and reach far more people than you can even imagine. It allows us to keep lending a hand up, educating, and raising awareness about the turmoil and chaos that domestic violence and sexual assault cause,” Libsack said.
