This time is crucial to adopt a dog or cat and create an open pen, says Jenn Porter-Milne of Paws-itive Partners.

The North Platte animal shelter is at capacity and with the Fourth of July, there has to be room for a stray hold, Porter-Milne said.

Dogs and cats need homes and now is the time, she said.

If you can't adopt, Porter-Milne asks that you discuss the possibility with others who might be able to.
