College extends deadline for bids on houseTell North Platte what you think

The closing date for sealed bids on this year's North Platte Community College custom-built home has been extended to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19.

Two bids were received bids by the original deadline in early June, but neither bidder could complete the transaction, said Chuck Salestrom, Associate Vice President of Public Information, Marketing and Development.

The bids were $102,111 and $97,000, Salestrom said.

“This has happened before and, while it’s unfortunate, some community family is going get a new opportunity to be the proud owner of this year's house,” he said.

The process and procedures remain the same. The NPCC Foundation requires a minimum bid of $85,000 and bidders must submit their sealed bid to the college.

Since 1971, students and faculty in the building trades programs at North Platte Community College have built a three-bedroom house as part of the “hands-on” aspect of their education.

The NPCC Foundation sponsors and oversees the sale.

This year’s house features an open floor-plan and includes special elements and upgrades.

Approximately one third of the 1,780 square foot house is dedicated to the master bedroom and bath, which is separated from the guest bedrooms by the living area. Some of the features of the spacious master suite include a recessed ceiling, a contemporary cultured marble shower, his and hers vanities and a whirlpool tub.

Another third of the house is dedicated to two guest bedrooms, both with walk-in closets, and another full bath. The remaining square footage is dedicated to the kitchen, dining room, and living room areas.

The kitchen area features Whirlpool appliances, a breakfast island, hickory cabinets and solid surface countertops. The dining and living areas come together under cathedral ceilings with recessed lighting.

The floor plan also includes a dedicated utility room and an area that was designed for a crawlspace or basement stairway. Hickory trim is used extensively throughout the house.

Flooring in the home includes carpeted bedrooms, Dura-Ceramic tile in the utility room, stairway and bathrooms, and three-quarter-inch hickory wood floors in the living area, dining room, and kitchen.

The home was built with a tongue and groove floor system and laminated I-beam floor joists. DuPont Tyvek energy saving house wrap was used to conserve energy and all exterior walls and ceilings were sealed to meet 2011 Green Build Savings Standards.

The front of the house features a double sidelight front door. Heritage Asphalt shingles on the roof have a 30-year warranty and there is a 50 year guarantee on the house siding.

Bids will be accepted by mail or may be delivered in person. No faxes will be accepted. All bids must be in sealed envelopes and addressed as follows:

Bruce Bergman – NPCC House Bid, c/o North Platte Community College – North Campus, 1101 Halligan Dr., North Platte, NE 69101.

Interested individuals can stop by the northwest corner of the North Campus (Technical Campus), 1101 Halligan Dr. in North Platte, to view it from Monday through Friday or by appointment for other times.

Open houses are scheduled from 5-7 p.m. on June 27, July 11 and July 18,” Salestrom said.

“Someone is going to get a fabulous home on July 19,” he said.
