AARP to hold discussion about Medicare, Social SecurityTell North Platte what you think

AARP invites residents to have a say about the future of Medicare and Social Security during a July 10 community conversation at the Holiday Inn Express in North Platte.

AARP is the American Association of Retired Persons.

The event is part of AARP’s national conversation about strengthening health and retirement security for seniors and future generations. The effort began in 2012 through surveys, community conversations, forums, debates, teletown hall sessions and other activities, the AARP said.

At the session July 10, AARP state leaders will host a discussion about responsible solutions that will secure Medicare for future generations and prevent harmful cuts to Social Security, the group said.

“Too many politicians in Washington say the answer to the challenges facing Medicare is to cut benefits or force seniors to pay more. There’s also a push for a budget deal that will make deep cuts in Social Security cost-of-living adjustments to reduce the deficit,” said Bob Eppler, who volunteers as state president for AARP Nebraska. “AARP believes there’s a better way.”

The You’ve Earned a Say conversation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 300 Holiday Frontage Road.

A light dinner and refreshments will be provided at no cost, but space is limited and registration is required.

RSVP by July 1 by calling 1-877-926-8300 toll free.
