Jeremiah Fuoss, 24, of North Platte, was arraigned in Lincoln County Court Monday on charges of shoplifting and possession of methamphetamine.

Fuoss was picked up on an outstanding warrant, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.

Fuoss has a long list of prior charges of thefts, criminal mischief, drug related offenses and for failure to appear several times. He asked for a public defender.

Fuoss served a year and eight months to the state penitentiary, from March 22, 2010 to Dec. 28, 2011, for his part in vandalizing two golf courses in Lincoln County in September 2009.

He and Phillip D. Timmerman, 20, both did hard time after they took a joyride in stolen golf carts that had been chained up outside a clubhouse. After careening around the course, damaging greens, sand traps, rakes and a bench, they deposited the carts in Lake Maloney.

Ron Block, general manager and head pro of the course, said that $24,000 in damage was done to the carts. Some that were not stolen had their ignitions damaged. Block also estimated the damage to the grounds to be around $6,600, plus the manpower to clean the mess up.

Block said that he had been involved with golf courses for 40 years, and that incidents like this spring up every year or every other year. Part of the problem, Block said at the time, is that the perpetrators of such crimes, if caught, are rarely penalized severely.

“They just give them a slap on the wrist, and that’s that,” he said. “I’d like to an example made out of somebody.”

Timmerman served a year and four months for his part in those crimes.
