Council approves storm sewer projectTell North Platte what you think

On Tuesday, the city council unanimously accepted a certificate of completion for a storm water extension along Miles Ave.

The new sewer line runs on 14th St. north to 15th, then west on 15th to Custer Ave., then north on Custer to 17th, then west on 17th to Hayes Ave. and heading north on Hayes to 18th.

BSB Construction Inc. of Curtis was the contractor on the project.

The council also voted 7-0 to approve nine warrants to First National Bank in the amounts of $87,556.26, $119,269.41, $60,691.84, $66,181.25, $122,271.26, $63,381.22, $56,791.23, $73,762.39 and $214,438.24 as well as three warrants to Great Western Bank in the amounts of $192,521.91, $163,460.29 and $84,654.45.

These are short-term loans to the city for street, paving and sewer projects that have been completed in the last 2-3 years.

Eventually, the city could issue long-term bonds to cover the long-range costs of these and other projects.

Councilman Andrew Lee abstained from the vote because of a possible conflict of interest. Lee said his brother works for one of the contractors.

Earlier, the council unanimously approved a resolution to designate First National Bank of North Platte as a warrant lender. A warrant purchase agreement will be delivered to First National Bank.
