A quarter-inch of rain fell Saturday under stormy skies in North Platte, during morning and afternoon showers, according to the National Weather Service at the North Platte Regional Airport.

Heavy clouds were frequent throughout day, throughout the area. Most of them carried only a little rain.

Heavy lightning crashed early Sunday morning in the skies north of North Platte, where the rain was heavier. The lightening was captured in photographs by Bulletin reader Eric Miller. Miller said the photos were taken around 2 a.m.

There were reports of a half-inch to two inches of rain in McPherson, Logan and Custer counties on Saturday and early Sunday morning.

So far this year in North Platte, 6.63 inches of precipitation has fallen, compared to the normal amount of 8.47 inches and the year ago amount of 6.71 inches, the weather service said.

Dry weather is forecast through Thursday in North Platte, with a high reaching the mid-90s on Monday and Tuesday. There is a slight chance of thundershowers on Thursday and Friday nights, the weather service said.
