Boys and girls Black teams win college all-star gamesTell North Platte what you think

In the seventh annual Mid-Plains Area All-Star Game the Girls Black Team defeated the Girls Gold Team 83-68.

In the second contest, the Boys Black Team knocked off the Boys Gold Team 78-68.

In the girls game, Black took a commanding 45-33 lead into intermission and never looked back on their way to victory.

The Black team was coached by Sandhills/Thedford head coach Scott Leisy. Sam Kennedy (Sutherland) and Rachel Goltl (McCook) led Black in scoring with 15 points apiece. Brooke Frederick (Hershey) and Kate Kelley (Southwest) also were in double figures with 11 points for Black, along with Jennifer Heeren (Sidney) who finished with 10.

Shelby Allberry (Saint Patrick) finished with six points. Taylor Marten (Sandhills/Thedford), Kylie Wroot (North Platte) and Madison Tomlinson (Mullen) all chipped in four points for the Black squad. Allyson Cole (Hitchcock County) rounded out Black’s scoring with three points. Rachel Malhberg (Elwood), Anna Griffiths (Wallace) and Shania Metcalf (Perkins County were also members of the Black team.

The Gold team was coached by Holdrege head coach Trent Benjamin. Brooklynn Trew (McCook) led Gold with 11 points. Maggie Nelson (Holdrege) was also in double figures with 10.

The Gold was well balanced in scoring as Sydney Faessler (Bridgeport) and Clara Vinton (Mullen) had nine points apiece while Karissa Segelke ( Sidney) and Brittyn Munster (Gothenburg) both had eight points. Ashten Hernandez (North Platte) had four points, Taylor Wismer (Kimball) had three points, Chelsea Sowle (Wallace) and Brekkan Martinosky both had two points for the Gold team. Emma Skelton (Wauneta/Palisade) and Mandy O’Malley (Saint Patrick) each contributed one point apiece. Joli Hopping (Sutherland) and Morgan Linneman (Sidney) were also members of the Gold team.


In the boys game, the game was back and forth as the Black team took a 28-27 lead into half. The Black team extended the lead late and held on to win. The Black team was coached by Leyton head coach Gary Oltmann.

Cody Wudtke (McCook) led the way with 13 points and Sam Schumacher (Leyton) was also in double figures with 11. Dakota Best (Southern Valley) was third with nine points. Cody Corfield (Paxton) and Zach Mann (Brady) both contributed eight points. Logan Koehler (Gothenburg) had seven points including a big 3 pointer late in the game.

Joe O’Malley (Saint Patrick) and Luke Wright (North Platte) both had six points while Quinton Hite (Perkins County) had five. Sam Behrends (Creek Valley) had three points, Ryan Dahlgren (Bertrand) and Wyatt Anderson (Arapahoe) each chipped in two points to round out the scoring. Matt Aten (Overton) was also on the Black team.

The Gold team was coached by Arapahoe head coach Bob Braithwait. Joseph Clinch (Saint Patrick) led the Gold team with 11 points. Nick High (Bertrand) was close behind with nine.

Spencer Kucera (Southern Valley) and Zane Peterson (Cambridge) both contributed seven points for Gold. Joseph Rettele (Dundy County/Stratton) had six points, while Riley Rice (Mullen), Jack Kenny (North Platte) and Lucas Gleisberg (Medicine Valley) all scored five. Austin Starr (SMC) and Dylan Johnson (Hershey) both finished with four points.

Gage Schutz (Arapahoe) had three points while Zach Morland (Paxton) and Isaac Watson (Arapahoe) both finished with two. Tanner Cline (South Loup) was also on the Gold team.
