Kearney opened scoring in the first inning with Mitch Hiemstra's one out RBI sacrifice fly to right field.

But North Platte (9-7) answered back in the second inning. Alex Harms tied the game with a one-out single to left. Then with two outs, Darian Allberry singled to right to give the First Nationals the lead.

Luke Volz then followed with a single to right that scored another run for a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth, North Platte expanded the lead with Allberry's two-out ground single into left.

But Kearney finally got going in the bottom of the fourth inning. Matt Moore scored the first run on a throwing error by the shortstop, Volz. Then Brandon Pacheco singled in another run to make it 4-3.

Dakota Schriner then hit a one-out single to right to tie the game. Dalton Pflughaupt came on for North Platte starter Ty Brockmoller. But with two outs, Kearney took the lead at 5-4 with an infield single by Alec Kowalski.

The First Nationals rallied back in the fifth. They tied the game when Volz came home from second base on a wild pitch by Blake Holtmeier. On the play, Volz caught Kearney's defense off-guard as he rounded third base and he beat catcher Jamieson Oertle to the plate.

On the next pitch, Ben Sukraw sacrificed another run with a fielder's choice to second base and North Platte led 6-5.

But with two outs, Kearney rallied with RBI base hits by Pacheco and Hiemstra to take the lead back.

In the next inning, Kearney scored three runs to put some distance between themselves and the Nationals.

Ben Clark, who relieved Holtmeier in the sixth, got the final three outs in the seventh to close the game for Kearney.
